That means , in their country , from democracy to economy , GDP , India has played a decisive role. But think about it , despite all the favours of India , Why has Maldivian government started hating India today ?
So look , this is the year 1988 , when Maldives ' President Maumoon Abdul Gayum was there. At that time , the prominent and wealthy businessman Abdullah Luthufi wanted to replace President wanted to replace president Gayum and take over the country. For this , Luthufi had called mercenaries soldiers of the government . And twice in 1980 and 1983 , he tried to get the coup done with help of Sri Lanka mercenary forces. But he was unsuccessful in this. But in 1988 . Luthufi's coup attempt was successful. And his mercenary forces took over all the government offices and buildings , even the presidential palace of Maldives. Now , due to this , President Gayum had to hide in a safe house with his family. But to give a firm answer to this , Gayum started asking for military assistance from other countries. He went to Sri Lanka , Pakistan , Singapore and the UK , but everyone refused to help him , saying that they lacked military capabilities. In fact , Gayum tried to ask for help from the US , but the US denied him , using the excuse of distance . And at the time , Gayum had almost completely lost hope. But then the UK suggested him to ask for help from India . And this idea proved to be a game changer for the Maldives .Because as soon as India asked for help , they approved it. And within 9 hours , we deployed our paratroopers in Maldives . And on that night , the India forces defeated Luthufi,s mercenaries , saved the president and reinstalled the Maldivian democracy. So , you must have understand that India's contribution is behind the appearance of the sovereign state of the Maldives .
Many times India help the Maldivians : Now , after so much help , it is obvious that the past governments of the Maldives were pro-India. In fact, have also supported India a lot on the international stage.
So let's start the main topic why Maldivians anger for the India : There are a total 9 political parties in the Maldives .There are only two political parties that have dominated Maldivian politics to date. One is the Maldivian Democratic Party , MDP , who is accused of being pro-India . And on the other side is the Progressive Party Of Maldives , which is known for its pro-China stances. So in 2008, the leader of the Pro-India Maldivian Democratic Party Mohammad Nasheed , won the Maldivian presidential election with a majority. And in the next year , in 2009 Nasheed signed the Indo-Madives Defense pact with India . Now , look , the real motive of this pact was to counter the Chinese influence in the Indian Oceans region .For this, India was also going to place 26 radars in the Maldives so that both the countries could surveillance in the Indian Ocean region. And under this agreement , India also took permission to build a small Air Force helipad station in the maldives. Now , If you look at it, both the countries benefited from this entire defense pact. Like India will be able to deter China by placing surveillance over the Indian Ocean region. And the Maldives will also be able to use the helipad air forces station as an air ambulance during medical emergencies with maritime security.
